For today’s Christmas tutorial I’m sharing probably my most favourite ornament yet. My Crystal Initial Ornament was thought up after seeing so many pretty initial ornaments online and for sale. As I’ve mentioned before our Christmas budget is super tight this year so splurging on a pretty initial ornament was not an option. Then when browsing the local Sam’s Warehouse I spotted some of those little wooden initials. I didn’t think of this idea until a few days later but my original idea was to do our last name initial and one ornament for each family member (6 in total including pets) so with that in mind we headed back to Sam’s and I started my search for initials – I found all but 2 letters I needed so with a depressed sigh I set about on another plan (I came up with one but more on that later) and just grabbed the one letter – our last name initial.
I think the thing that I love most about this ornament is that I only had to buy the letter so this project cost me a total of .42 CENTS!!! I know!!! UNDER $0.50!!! I was so excited to see that little number pop up on the cashier screen that I was totally bummed that they didn’t have all the letters I needed. This project is super simple and I had it done in an hour (mostly drying time) and it was hanging on the tree the very next day. I love the glimmer you get when it catches the lights on the tree and I just love looking at it every time I take a look at the tree. So if you want to make your own Crystal Initial Ornament follow my simple picture tutorial below!!
Step 1: Paint letter
Step 2: Drill hole for hanging
Step 3: Cover in crystal until you like the look
Step 4: Pull needle through underside of your letter.
Step 5: Remove needle and tie ends off. Coat end in hot glue and pull against hole to seal.
See how simple that is!! I loved making the ornaments and for the price I even went back and bought a few letters for other family members. The great thing about this is it could be an awesome thoughtful and budget friendly Christmas gift for families, newlyweds, new babies, grandparents – ANYONE.
